Here Comes the Sun, So Keep Your Skin Safe

With the summer sun blazing in the sky, it’s important to educate yourself on how to safely enjoy being outdoors. Seemingly innocent sunlight can lead to a host of skin problems including premature aging and cancer.

The sun is the number one enemy of skin. It emits a broad spectrum of wavelengths, but it is primarily the ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B portions that cause skin damage, said Dr. David Duncan, a board-certified dermatologist in Norman, Okla. So what can you do to avoid damage to your skin and keep it healthy and youthful? Click here for more tips from Dr. Duncan.

For new mother Abby Hudgins having her son whisked to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit minutes after his birth was one of the scariest moments of her life. Luckily, Abby’s baby had a ‘guardian angel’ looking after him – in the form of NICU nurse Lesa Lewis.

Now a healthy, happy 19-month-old, baby Horus Hudgins was reunited with his guardian angel at a special ceremony. Norman Regional’s Health Foundation has a program that honors caregivers in the Health System. To learn more about the program and hear Horus’s amazing story click here.

Benefit Concert to Aid NRHS Nurse

Benefit Concert to Aid NRHS Nurse

Nurses, doctors and staff at Norman Regional have banded together to help one of their own. A benefit concert will be held for a nurse coping with cancer from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 18 at Coaches Brewhouse on Norman’s Main Street.

All proceeds from the concert will go to help Yvonne Day, a nurse who works at the HealthPlex in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Yvonne has been diagnosed with a very progressive form of lung cancer, said Amy Baden, a co-worker and one of the benefit concert’s organizers.

Dr. Mark Camp and his band, Osage, have donated their time to play at the benefit concert. There is also a silent auction the night of the event.

Tickets can also be purchased for $10 at the door the night of the event. Norman Regional employees can also donate Paid Time Off (PTO) by picking up a PTO donation card from Human Resources.
